AYSO United Bay Area Additional Information and Frequently Asked Questions.
AYSO United is a National Soccer program which encompasses 29 locations across the USA. It is one of a few national programs and has evolved recently to allow AYSO players to participate in a Club soccer experience whilst adhering to the AYSO Philosophies.
The following document will serve to provide further information about our program here in the Bay Area, as well as answer any questions you might have about the program.
1) Who are our coaches?
Coaches are selected by our Director of Coaching and are selected based upon a variety of attributes, including coaching experience, playing experience and coaching qualifications. All our coaches also must complete a background check and must be registered with AYSO.
2) What playing league do we play in?
AYSO United has applied successfully to play in Nor Cal Premier. This playing league covers a large geographical area. We will be registered to play in Region One/Two, which covers the area between San Francisco and San Jose and down to Monterrey. We will play in this league in the Spring and also the Fall.
3) What commitment is required?
Tryouts happen once a year (as instructed by Nor Cal premier) and when you are asked to join an AYSO United team, we are asking you to play Fall and also Spring seasons. Our expectations are in line with other clubs and we realize that it tasks time for players to gel together as a team and development takes time.
4) What is the cost?
As a non-profit organization we keep our costs as low as possible in order to cover our operating expenses, such as league membership, field use, professional coaches and referees, and training equipment. Scholarships may be available on a limited basis.
5) Are there any other costs?
Yes, there are some other costs you might/will occur. These include the following:
- Uniforms. All players require a uniform, if your uniform fits from last year, you can use that.
- Tournaments. Registration fees include two tournaments per team per year. Any additional tournaments you as a team enter will require you to pay the entry costs.
- Camps and specialized clinics. These are not compulsory, but if you wish to attend, there will be an additional cost
- Head Coach travel and accommodation for overnight tournaments. If your team attends a tournament that requires an overnight stay, the team will cover the cost of the Head coach accommodation if necessary.
6) When will we know if we made the team?
After the last tryout, the staff will meet and we will form the teams. All players will be contacted at that time and informed if they made a team or not. Upon accepting a place on the team, players will be asked to register online and make an initial payment.
7) How do we make the program payments?
The fees for the program can be paid in full at the start of the season, or then can be made using the payment schedule.
8) Can my child play on an older age team?
All players must try-out for their own birth year. All players will be registered for a team in their own birth year (if applicable). Players will then be “invited” to practice and guest play with the older team upon confirmation from both coaches. The decision to have players play up will determined by the head coach, with final approval from the Director of Coaching. (DoC)
9) Who decides on our Tournaments?
Each team will decide on the number of tournaments they participate in. We suggest that each team does two tournaments a year. (one in the spring and one in the fall). Teams are welcomed to do more than that if they decide to as a team.
10) What Next Steps?
After the last tryout we will form the teams and also finalize the coaching assignments. We have “tentatively slated” coaches to teams, but we cannot officially assign them until the team is formed. After the teams are formed, players will be given instructions to register and make their first payment. Then the club will set up meetings with teams to go over the program in more depth.
Thank you for considering AYSO United Bay Area as a home for your child to play soccer.
